The waiting is over. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports is reporting Scott Hairston has agreed to a two-year deal with the Cubs.
Hairston, 32, played surprisingly well in a platoon role, hitting 20 home runs (third on the team) with a career-high OPS of .803. He also hit 25 doubles and batted .263, all in just 400 plate appearances.
The Mets have to make a move now to address the outfield. Some thought that re-signing Hairston was a given. Apparently it was not. Now they have to make a big move, like signing Michael Bourn to make the outfield respectable, or at least mediocre. As of this point, they will have to piece together three platoons, which is not optimal and limits what you can do with a roster.
Stay tuned. There are still a few weeks to make moves before Spring Training starts.
