Series Preview: Mets Head To Miami For Three

  • Sharebar

Tonight at 7:10, the Mets begin a three-game series with the Marlins in Miami.

The Marlins have failed to live up to expectations and are currently in last place in the National League East. After spending big money this offseason, they couldn’t put together a big run, and were forced to trade away some of their stars. Hanley Ramirez, Gaby Sanchez, and Anibal Sanchez are all gone. They seem to be stuck between being decent and being terrible.

The Marlins offense has failed to live up to expectations this season. They traded for Carlos Lee to try to improve it, but it didn’t improve. Now without Hanley Ramirez, Gaby Sanzhez, and Omar Infante, the offense is even worse. Jose Reyes has only been decent. The only thing going for the offense right now is Giancarlo Stanton is back and healthy. He is the only bright spot on the team right now.

The pitching staff’s production has also tailed off recently.Ricky Nolasco has been Ricky Nolasco this season. Josh Johnson hasn’t been the same pitcher that he once was due to injuries. Carlos Zambrano was very good towards the beginning of the season, but has been awful since. The only real rock has been Mark Buehrle. The back end of the bullpen hasn’t been great either. Heath Bell has been awful and was taken out of the closer role. Steve Cishek has done a nice job in that role, but he’s the only consistent pitcher left in the bullpen. Edward and Mujica and Randy Choate were both shipped off, leaving very little left for the Marlins on that front.

The Mets are definitely a better team than the Marlins despite their similar records. Miami has been left with very little after the slew of mid-season trades. Hopefully the Mets will be able to take at least two of three from this team.
