Duda hit .241 in 80 games with the Mets this season before being demoted to Buffalo last month. Here is a comparison of how he’s done in 25 games with Buffalo vs. his performance with the Mets this season:
Duda was demoted because he was becoming too patient at the plate. He was taking too many pitches and he was starting to strike out more and more. We can’t really tell from the numbers whether he’s gotten more aggressive in his time inn Triple-A but hopefully the improved numbers are a good sign.
Somebody had to go to make room for Duda. While it probably should have been Justin Turner, I’m fine with the Mets choosing Valdespin, who is really still a prospect. Valdespin has impressed with his power in his time with the big league club, hitting 17 extra-base hits in just 161 at-bats, eight of those home runs. He also had seven steals during that time. However, the defense is still a big question mark.
Duda is batting fifth this afternoon and starting in left field.
