Mid-Season Review: Top 20 Prospects

This winter, I did a series of posts on the top 20 prospects in the Mets minor league system. Now that we are halfway through the season, let’s review how they’ve done.

Note: stats as of 7/12

Names to watch for next year’s list:

  • Matt Den Dekker, who had an excellent 50+ games in Binghamton before being called up to Buffalo would be on this list. Although he, like Nieuwenhuis, has struggled with a high strikeout rate, he is a tremendous center fielder and also has some speed.
  • Another name that would be included is Aderlin Rodriguez. He earned a call to St. Lucie yesterday after displaying great power in Savannah. Rodriguez, 20, has 13 home runs since May 1. That’s very impressive for such a young player, especially when you consider how much the ballpark in Savannah kills power numbers.
  • Travis Taijeron has had an excellent season between Savannah and St. Lucie, hitting 16 homers in 79 games to go along with a .402 on-base percentage.
  • Wilfredo Tovar has had a breakout season so far as well. He wasn’t even in consideration for my list this year, but he finally broke through with his bat this season. He looks like another Ruben Tejada.
About Connor O'Brien
I'm a 17 year-old blogger, high school student, and lifelong Mets fan. I've been blogging about the Mets in some form or another for about four years. I embrace the new age, sabermetric way of thinking, but also recognize the importance of scouting and player devlopment.
