C.J. Nitkowski announced via Twitter earlier today that he is signing with the Mets:
I haven’t pitched in AA in 17 yrs but you take an opportunity when it presents itself & run with it. This is it, last shot. Thank you @Mets

Nitkowski, 39, is a left-handed relief pitcher. He has not appeared in a MLB game since 2005. Nitkowski has suffered through countless injuries over his career, injuries that cut his time in the big leagues short at 32 years of age.
Last summer, however, Nitkowski underwent a new treatment plan, using his own stem cells to heal his injuries. It was the same treatment given to Bartolo Colon last year.
Nitkowski says he’s not throwing in the high-80s again, and feels he’s ready to return to the majors. He pitched in the Dominican Winter League out of the bullpen, and almost signed with the Mets during the early spring.
Hopefully, Nitkowski can stay healthy like Bartolo Colon did and help the Mets bullpen down the stretch.
