Mets Designate Miguel Batista For Assignment

  • Sharebar

The Mets announced today that they have designated Miguel Batista for assignment.

Batista, 41, is 1-4 on the season with a 4.82 ERA in 46.2 innings. The Mets recalled reliever Elvin Ramirez last night and needed to get rid of someone to clear space for him.

Terry Collins also announced that Jeremy Hefner will start on Wednesday. In his return to the big league club yesterday, Hefner allowed two runs on two hits in two innings. The Mets have not announced who will start on thursday, however.

It seems now that Matt Harvey could get the call to pitch on Thursday. He really struggled last night, tossing five innings but allowing six runs on seven hits. The only other option within the organization right now is Collin McHugh. McHugh, 25, really only just got to Triple-A. He has a 4.54 over seven starts in Buffalo. Neither option looks great right now, but it’s all the Mets have.
