Mets Activate Bay, Designate Quintanilla For Assignment

  • Sharebar

The Mets announced this afternoon that they have activated Jason Bay for tonight’s game against the Nationals and have also designated Omar Quintanilla for assignment.

Bay has been out since June 15, when he suffered a concussion in a game against the Reds crashing into the left field wall at Citi Field. In 22 games, Bay is hitting .187 with four home runs and six RBI. He missed major time at the beginning of the season with a fractured rib.

Quintanilla, 30, has filled in at shortstop and second base when Ruben Tejada went down, but isn’t really needed anymore now that Tejada is back. In fact, he has only gotten one at-bat this month after playing almost every day in June. In 29 games, Quintanilla has a .257/.350/.371 slash line and four RBI.

Bay is playing left field tonight and batting fifth.
