Tonight, the Mets head out to Colorado to begin a three-game, weekend set with the Rockies…
Here are the pitching matchups for the series.
Game 1- Tonight 8:40
Chris Schwinden- Schwinden, the replacement for Mike Pelfrey, will make his 2012 major league debut tonight against the Rockies. In four starts for the Mets in 2011, Schwinden went 0-2 with a 4.71 ERA. He has a 2.05 ERA in Buffalo so far this season.
Drew Pomeranz- Pomeranz gave up nine hits and five earned in his season debut against the D-Backs, pitching just 4.1 innings. However, he bounced back in his last start, giving up just two runs over five innings.
Jeremy Guthrie- Guthrie has struggled so far this season, giving up six earned runs in two of his four starts for the Rockies. Last season, he was the victim of a bad team, going 9-17 with a 4.33 ERA.
Game 3- Sunday 3:10
Johan Santana- After giving up four earned in 1.1 innings on April 17 against Atlanta, Johan bounced back and dominated the Marlins in his last start. He allowed just one run in 6.2 innings, while striking out 11.
Jamie Moyer- The legendary Moyer has pitched great so far this season. In his last start, he allowed only one run in six innings against the Pirates.
–Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez, Colorado’s two best hitters, are struggling so far this season. “Tulo” is hitting .276 with just two home runs and nine RBI. Gonzalez also has two homers and nine RBI, but is hitting an even worse .246.
– Believe it or not, Jamie Moyer has been the best pitcher for the Rockies so far this season. A late-spring scrap heap, Moyer has pitched to a 2.55 ERA so far this season.
– I’m excited to see Chris Schwinden pitch long-term. I don’t know much about him, other than that he’s been pretty good in the minors so far.
– I am also excited to see how this homegrown team mixes. With Jason Bay and Ronny Cedeno on the DL, it’s all youth from here on out. Zach Lutz will get some playing time at various positions. Hopefully his great minor league numbers will transfer over to the majors.
