Game 3: Mets Battle Braves in Series Finale, Go For Sweep

Today at 1:10, the Mets will battle the Braves at Citi Field. They will attempt to sweep the Braves and start of the 2012 season 3-0.

On the mound today for the Amazin’s is newly-signed lefty Jonathon Niese. Niese and the Mets made their five year, $25.5 million extension official yesterday. The deal could put Niese under team control for seven years if the exercise club options in 2017 and 2018.

Niese will be making his first start of the season. He went 11-11 last season with a 4.40 ERA in 26 starts. Niese lowered his walks per nine last year to 2.5 from 3.2 the previous season, showing major progression.

Yesterday, the Mets beat the Braves 4-2, behind three home runs. David Wright hit one in the first off starter Jair Jurrjens to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Lucas Duda followed with homers in the fourth and seventh innings. Josh Thole also had an RBI double.

The Starters:

Mike Minor- Braves- Minor will be making his season debut after a 5-3 season last year in which he posted a 4.14 ERA in 15 big league starts. Minor allowed nine runs in ten innings against the Mets last season.

Jonathon Niee- Mets- Niese went 11-11 last season with a 4.40 ERA. He went 2-0 in three starts against the Braves last season along with a 4.26 ERA. He posted a 3.97 ERA last year in day games, going 5-5.
