Sandy Alderson confirmed today that the Mets have agreed to terms with veteran right hander Chris Young on a minor league deal.

Young, 32, had the same procedure done on Johan Santana back in May of last year, causing him to miss the rest of the year. According to ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin, Sandy had this to say about Young:

“Chris was a real positive for us in spring training last year. He pitched well early in the year. Unfortunately, he re-injured his shoulder. We’d like to see him get back to the point where he was with us early last year and go from there, because he’s been an All-Star and quality guy to have on the team.”

Young went 1-0 in four starts with the Mets in 2011. It remains unclear when Young will be ready to pitch.
