Mets trade Rodriguez and cash to Brewers

  • Sharebar

Late last night, the Mets traded closer Francisco Rodriguez to the Brewers with cash for two players o be named later. As you probably know, K-Rod has that $17.5 million vesting option if he finishes 55 games this season and stays healthy. The Mets revieved a list of prospects from the Brewers that they will choose the two players to be named after they are scouted. Keep in mind that after the Brewers’ farm system has gotten very low ratings from experts after trades for Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum last winter, so there isn’t much top level talent for the Mets to choose from.

In the trade, the Mets sent $5 million to the Brewers to cover most of his salary for the rest of the year, but the Mets will not commit any money to K-Rod’s $17.5 million option or $3.5 million buyout.

More to come on the trade later today after Sandy Alderson speaks
