Here are the notable performances:
- Jonathon Niese- (L, 9-8) 6 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 3 ER, BB, 7 SO, 85 pitches (62 strikes)
- Lucas Duda- 2-3, R, E
- Justin Turner- 1-4, RBI
- Jose Reyes- 1-4, R
Notes: Jonathon Niese didn’t pitch badly today, allowing only three earned runs, but two fielding errors, one by Angel Pagan, and one by Lucas Duda that likely cost him and the Mets the game.
D.J. Carrasco had a great day out of the bullpen, pitching two perfect innings.
Jake Westbrook shut down the Mets, allowing two runs on four hits in eight innings. He has pitched badly this month, but was very efficient, throwing just 90 pitches. He probably could have completed the game, but with the ridiculous heat, Tony LaRussa took him out in favor of Mitchell Boggs.
Next: at Floridfa at 7:10
Mike Pelfrey (5-9, 4.67) vs. Chris Volstad (5-8, 5.59)
Very similar numbers… should be a decent game
By the way, David Wright is coming back tomorrow and will bat fourth behind Carlos Beltran.
