Notable Performances:
- David Wright- 2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 2B
- Jose Reyes- 2-6, R
- Dan Murphy- 2-4, R, 2 RBI
- Mike Pelfrey- (ND) 6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 SO, 115 pitches (70 strikes)
Notes: Tonight was all about David Wright for the Mets, playing for the first time since May 15. He had a big game, with two big doubles and 2 RBI. He looked great on the base paths, running to third on the throw home from the outfield. It didn;t look like his back was bothering him at all which is a great sign. Hopefully he can stay healthy and help this team make “a run.”
The Mets knocked around Chris Volstad, getting eight hits and scoring four runs (three earned) off him in just five innings. Coming into this game, Volstad was fifth in the league in runs allowed.
The Mets bullpen was shaky tonight, allowing two runs in three innings. Here are the individual numbers:
- Pedro Beato- 0.1 IP, H, ER, 2 BB
- Tim Byrdak- 0.1 IP, 0 H
- Bobby Parnell- (W, 3-1) 1.1 IP, H, ER, BB, SO
- Jason Isringhausen (S, 2) 1 IP, SO
Overall, not a bad day for the Mets. Wright came back and showed he’s ready to go. Reyes is now fully healthy, Izzy is proving that he can close out games, and Mike Pelfrey is… acceptable. I’m all for a trade Pelfrey campaign. He is just too inconsistent to be an “ace,” or let alone a 2-3 starter.
Next: at Marlins at 7:10
